Going for Gold

Welcome to my website

Thanks to Chris,my computer savvy son,  I have created this website to help all my supporters at home to follow along on my grand adventure! Thanks also to my team mate, Cathy for the great idea in the first place!

Visitor's notice

Follow the adventures of my team and I as we travel to Penang, Malaysia to compete in the World Club Crew Dragon Boat Championships from August 1-3. I will try to update my blog every few days or as often as I can obtain internet access. Right now it is all a huge unknown as I get ready to put 3 years of training to the test!

Home sweet home!

Yes, I made it home safe and sound! I got in very late Monday night and have spent the last few days trying to readjust to this time zone and regular life. It's back to planning and making meals, doing laundry, driving kids around, etc. but it is wonderful! I tend to fall asleep right after dinner...

Monkeys, monkeys, monkeys!

We are just back from traipsing through the jungle in Bako National park and all is well! This will be a short update as there is soooo much to tell that I won't be able to do any of it justice in a short space of time. (I need to get to bed and i don't have my glasses with me so can't see what I...

Kuching

I am sitting in a Coffe Bean (similar to Star bucks) in downtown Kuching and they offer 30 minutes of free internet to customers so I thought I would take this opportunity to update everyone. We spent yesterday flying- Penang to KL and then KL to Kuching. Lots of waiting around in airports....

Third in the World!!!

One race down, two to go! Yesterday was the 2k. Apparently, most countries in the world do not race 2k events, Canadians seem to be alone in this as experienced paddlers, so...it is not a 'sanctioned' event and thus the rules are a little looser. So, because there are 20 teams in our division, they...

First race tomorrow!

Well, the first event is getting ever closer. We had a great practice yesterday in the prime heat of the day. We deliberatley chose practice times in the early afternoon so that we would get used to paddling hard in the heat. Take a hot, heat wave, humid day in Canada and add 10 degrees! so far,...
